Welcome to Nelson Funeral Home
Sandy was a wonderful mother and most proud of her three sons. She was more than happy to be the central figure in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Sandy was a homemaker providing and maintaining a comfortable home that was always open for the many family and friends who would stop by announced or not. One of her greatest joys was simply visiting around her kitchen table, sharing laughs and stories about everyday life. Directly order flowers, view and sign the condolences book, share memories and more to celebrate lives of those dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and La Vone Gundacker; her first husband, Glenn Wheeler; her sister, JoAnn Pillard; as well as her step-son, Steven Shank. Beth and I were raising our kids at the same time. We had so much fun just watching them play and celebrating how wonderful it was being a mom. We spent many hours feeling all the feelings around watching our children grow, learn hard lessons and become the wonderful adults they are. She was someone you could turn to from creative ideas for Halloween costumes to processing how to help your child get through tough times. I loved her creativity, quick wit, dry sense of humor and easy going nature.
Above all, Richard adored his family, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. HANNIBAL – Richard Willis Cole, 75, of Hannibal, N.Y. Passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse Thursday, December 1, 2022. He was the oldest son born to Fred Willis Cole and Gladys Ruth Cole in Oswego, N.Y. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Edward J. Dumas, Emily Allen, Brianna Dumas, Joshua Dumas, Jacob Dumas, and Hunter Dumas, and two great-grandchildren Rozalynne Dumas and Freyja Thomas.

She took us through our old neighborhood, which of course brought back many memories. Even though I didn’t see her often, our connection from the younger days was still there-she made that happen. I’ll miss her and I’m very sorry to the family and other friends for this sudden death. Needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding.
